Meet the coaches

Anthony Kreucher

Coach Kreucher is a graduate of Hope College and Sacred Heart Major Seminary where he earned degrees in Theology, this eventually led him to Detroit Cristo Rey High School where he has been working as campus minister and teacher for 6 years. Coach Kreucher led Detroit Cristo Rey wrestling in their inaugural season as a varsity sport after experience at Catholic Central High School, Divine Child High School, and Canton (Mi) High School. His passion for wrestling started at Catholic Central High School where he wrestled for Mike Rodriguez and was teammates with current Catholic Central Head Coach Mitch Hancock. "Wrestling showed me that anyone can compete, that there's a place in sport for athletes of all shapes and sizes. More than that, though, it taught me life lessons about teamwork, persistence, precision, and strategy. These are qualities that Cristo Rey seeks to instill in all its students; wrestling is another way of teaching them. Whether through academics or athletics, we're changing lives one young person at a time." -Coach Kreucher

Jose Ramirez

Coach Ramirez is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University where he earned a degree in education which lead him to Academy of the Americas in SW Detroit where he has been working for 22 years as both a teacher and administrator. He went on and attended Wayne State University and earned a master’s degree in administration which he is currently using as the Dean of School Climate and Culture at AOA. Coach Ramirez lead Detroit Cristo Rey High School in their inaugural season as a varsity sport. He comes to Cristo Rey with a wealth of coaching experience as former head coach at Grosse Pointe South High School and most recently from the University of Detroit Jesuit High School. His passion for wrestling started at Lely High School in Naples Florida where he wrestled for legendary coach Willie Gadson who he later followed to and wrestled for once again at EMU. “I fell in love with the sport immediately and excelled in a short period of time, I had the opportunity to continue my wrestling career at Eastern Michigan University where we won the MAC Conference Championship In 1996. Wrestling has provided so many opportunities in my life, I would not be where I am now without wrestling. That is why I feel so strongly about the work we are doing at DCR. We are teaching more than just wrestling, we are creating opportunities and transforming lives through this great sport." -Coach Ramirez
